A Challenger Appears

I nearly stepped this Northern Water Snake as I was getting out of my car. It was a bizarre end to an otherwise good few days. I captured it in a bucket to show my brother, but as I lifted the vessel to show him, the snake rushed out. It was apparently strong enough to elongate a good 14" or so of its body and rise right out of my enclosure. These snakes are fairly common around my house this time of year. They migrate thorough our property from a swamp on their way to mate and lay eggs in a nearby lake.

Quite an end to my day.
