Green

This post is a response to my brother's recent entry:

There is always
the difficulty of awareness:
Remaining conscious of the moment,
its possibilities and the closed questions
we mistake for possibilities.

Memories populate our everyday
like a sea of grass we wade through.
And with every breath we destroy
ideas, loves, the living and the dead,
by trying to capture them, define them,
weave them into this where-when tapestry,
this rope leading neatly from beginning to end to beginning.

All the while we look onward to a further
expanse of grass, thinking,
‘I may never see green again.’
